Two of Gibson's most iconic guitars are the Les Paul and the ES-335. I remember while growing up marvelling at the Les Paul guitar solos of Jimmy Page and Peter Framton and the ES-335 guitar work of Eric Clapton in Cream, Alvin Lee of Ten Years After and later on Larry Carlton.
My goal when designing the Artist model some twenty plus years ago was to combine the tonal characteristics of both these Gibson models. The result is a guitar that still has the crunch and fatness of a Les Paul but with the added brightnes and clarity of a ES-335. Sustaining long notes with feedback is surprisingly controllable. The physical weight is also reduced due to the sound chambers and use of all solid wood construction.
